The Norfolk Zoo and Cape Henry Lighthouse

I wanted to start a blog to keep track of the outings I have been having with R. I have just recently started getting out the house with her on my own or with friends and sometimes even her dad when he isn't working. She is almost three and it really has taken quite a while for my anxiety to calm down. This is such a great time to get her out to experience things. We are very fortunate that we live in an area that has so many things to do for little or no money!

So, last week I decided that R and I were going to get out the house and go the zoo. My brother and sister-in-law bought us a membership last year for mother's day! Best present ever, I think. So, we took ourselves to the zoo and had a great time. R is really getting familiar with all of the different animals and on a nice day, they are all out! We only got to explore half of the zoo. The next time we go, we will go to the "barn" area and reptile house. She had a blast though. They have a great little cafe, too. I can't wait for the Asian exhibit to finally open so we can see the tigers again! http://www.virginiazoo.org/

This week we planned our outing to coincide with my husbands day off. We went to the Cape Henry Lighthouse. It is on the Fort Story Base, but honestly it really is no trouble getting there. There are actually 2 lighthouses there, but the "new" one isn't open to the public. R unfortunately is still too short to climb (have to be 42 inches), so I made the hike by myself ($4) and J and R could see me from the ground! Also in Fort Story, is the monument for the first landing. Lots of history in the area! All in all it was a great day and we got out of the house! www.apva.org/capehenry/
